Keith Andrews is thought to be very concerned by Brentford after their 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

In his first Premier League outing as the Bees boss, Andrews was on the end of a shocking performance away to Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest.

Brentford looked miles off the pace with the look of an extremely run down squad, following the exit of Bryan Mbeumo to Man United and the ongoing transfer saga with Yoane Wissa.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Brentford are being tipped for relegation as former Watford striker Troy Deeney also is of the opinion the Irishman should be troubled by the west London side’s display on Sunday (17 August).

Speaking on talkSPORT (18 August), ex-Birmingham City forward Deeney was asked about how the Bees and their manager would be feeling after a torrid transfer window and a humbling by the Garibaldi.

Questioned on the red and white stripes’ “drain of talent both at managerial and playing level”, the ex-Hornet was asked whether he shared “concerns” about the team.

The retired footballer turned pundit admitted he did and said: “I think Keith [Andrews] does as well , he’s not a silly man.

“I think he can see optically it doesn’t look great…for Brentford a lot of changes.

“I imagine they’re going to go get three [or] four players in but they operate in a shoe string, they don’t expect to go and spend £50-60-70million on players.

“So, they’re going to have to see what comes later in the window.”

Football Insider verdict

Following the departures of Mbeumo, club captain Christian Norgaard and Mark Flekken, the Bees are looking worse for wear across the field.

Against Forest, there was an apparent lack of leadership and attacking threat due to the aforementioned players leaving and if Wissa was to also follow suit, the team could completely fall apart.

Igor Thiago did convert a penalty, showing he could be the next Ivan Toney for the west London outfit, yet losing their Congolese talisman could mark the end of Brentford’s five-year spell in the English top-flight.

Andrews has one heck of a job on his hand to turn a below-par team into survivors and, considering this is his first full-time gig as a manager, the omens don’t look good.

The Irishman has been thrown in at the deep end and it is looking increasingly apparent that he will be drown as his players struggle to stay afloat in the choppy tides of the Premier League.

Usually a club that is so well prepared, the Bees have not planned well for the arduous campaign ahead as their hive, a hub of talent and promise, has been smashed apart and ripped to shreds.
