Federico Chiesa was handed his first Premier League start of the season at long last for Liverpool.
The Italian international has struggled for match fitness all year for the Reds, with Chiesa joining the Reds lacking sharpness after having no pre-season with Juventus and enduring multiple injuries across the years.
Although Liverpool fans were not impressed with Chiesa’s performance, the 27-year-old winger lasted over an hour against Brighton & Hove Albion having not made a single Premier League start all season, an encouraging sign for the attacker heading into pre-season.
And Liverpool manager Arne Slot has now given his verdict on Chiesa’s performance against Brighton having not made a single start all season in the Premier League until tonight.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot highlighted that Chiesa ‘had some good moments’ for Liverpool, considering how little football the former Serie A star has played this season for the Reds, with the forward making his 13th appearance in all competitions.
With Chiesa likely to leave Liverpool this summer, the winger’s time at Anfield could be over before it’s really begun, with the attacker not even playing over 500 minutes for the Reds due to a lack of match sharpness and numerous fitness setbacks.
Yet Slot’s comment on Chiesa’s performance could potentially hint at a second chance for the Italian at Liverpool next season, where the forward will want to have an opportunity to become fully fit and firing for the new campaign.

Slot said: “Federico had some good moments as well, especially if you take into account how much he’s not been playing, he’s one of those who’s been unlucky with Mo’s form.
In general I think it was a good game from both sides.”
Every Liverpool supporter and critic seemed to acknowledge that this season was a free hit for Chiesa, with the winger moving to Merseyside after years of injury problems and no pre-season to catch up to speed.
And Liverpool need to stand by this stance going into this summer, with Chiesa a player who can become critical for the Reds as an attacking option if he can get match fit and prove he is a good alternative to Mohamed Salah or Cody Gakpo.
Indeed, Chiesa’s quality is clear for everyone to see, and the Italian should have another chance to prove his worth to this Liverpool squad after a full summer of training and playing in pre-season friendlies.
