The Scotland captain was up to his usual tricks in an amusing interview with Soccer AM, which continued on the entertaining ‘war of words’ between Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
It began at the back end of last year in November, when Oxlade-Chamberlain said Robertson, who he lauded as the best left-back in the world, was the worst player at rondo he’d ever seen.
I’m not the best, but he’s [Oxlade-Chamberlain] not exactly Xabi Alonso either.”
Well, Robertson may not be the king of rondo, but he certainly he amongst the best in the business in his particular position.
It’s safe to say that Oxlade-Chamberlain was left stunned by the stark contrast between Robertson in a game and when the 26-year-old is competing in rondo.
Andy Robertson is the gift that just keeps on giving.
Speaking back in November 2020, he said: “I say to him [Robertson] all the time, ‘How can someone that is so bad in a box or a rondo, like the worst I have ever seen, be so good in a match?’
“You watch him in a rondo, and he’s like he has never played football before.
“Yesterday was probably my best performance in a rondo I’ve ever done.
