Liverpool are just getting started in the transfer market, as they aim to retain their Premier League title.

The Reds blew their competition away last season to record their 10th English league win and level the all-time record.

They have lost a key player in Trent Alexander-Arnold, but have moved swiftly to replace him with Jeremie Frimpong.

The biggest transfer fee in Liverpool history is also set to be spent, as Florian Wirtz edges nearer to becoming the headline addition of the window.

But, although the Wirtz deal will blow a big old hole in Liverpool‘s transfer budget, the Reds will still have business to do.

And according to former midfielder Danny Murphy, he is already aware of one more signing which is ‘quite likely’ to be confirmed.

Although there has been a delay in the movement of the transfer, Wirtz is expected to join Liverpool in the coming days or weeks.

Once that monster deal has been wrapped up, the Reds are not expected to wait before conducting further business.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is expected to arrive hot on the heels of Wirtz as Liverpool plot their evolution at left-back.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Murphy outlined why he thinks Kerkez is a ‘really good option’ for Liverpool and explained how likely he thinks the move is to be completed.

“Kerkez from Bournemouth is a really good option,” says the pundit.

I think that’s quite likely to happen.”

Although the potential addition of Wirtz is rightfully getting the headlines at Liverpool this summer, the arrival of Kerkez should not be underestimated either.

Liverpool have been crying out for improvement at left-back all season.

Andy Robertson is not done yet by any means, but his level dropped undeniably in 2024/25.

As a result, having Kerkez to come in and add some new energy is arguably the most important business the Reds will do all summer.

Along with Frimpong, the 21-year-old will provide a new-look arrangement to Liverpool’s full-backs, as they move on from the Alexander-Arnold and Robertson era.

With the first window of the summer due to close on Tuesday, Liverpool will hope to have that all tied up and secure by then.
