'Hopefully': Gakpo makes intriguing comment about Alexander-Arnold's future straight after Liverpool win PL title

Liverpool have won the Premier League for the second time since 2020 after beating Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday.

The Reds went into the game knowing a draw would be enough to see them crowned champions of England once again.

And despite falling behind to a Dominic Solanke header, Liverpool never looked like faltering in this one.

The Reds dusted themselves down and stuck five unanswered goals past a sorry Spurs side to claim the title at Anfield.

After the final whistle, a party 35 years in the making erupted.

And although his future is currently very much up in the air, Trent Alexander-Arnold was front and centre.

Alexander-Arnold shared himself partying inside the Liverpool dressing room and taking a break from the celebrations himself, Cody Gakpo made an intriguing comment on the right-back’s contract situation.

Over the past month or so it has started to feel inevitable that Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool.

The No.66 has been flirting with Real Madrid over the past couple of years and looks all set to jump ship for the Spanish club on a free transfer.

Nevertheless, Alexander-Arnold’s intense celebration after scoring the winner at Leicester last week had some fans believing that he may yet perform a dramatic U-turn.

And speaking to LFCTV in the aftermath of the celebrations, Gakpo suggested that the Liverpool squad have not yet totally given hope of that either.

“I think the group didn’t change much from last season, so now you can build on the team as well,” said the Dutchman.

“Now with Mo and Virgil staying – and hopefully Trent as well – then you can keep building on that team for many years to come.”

If Gakpo’s comments weren’t enough to set the rumour mill into overdrive, then Alexander-Arnold being spotted with Liverpool owner John Henry after Sunday’s game certainly is.

With Henry making a rare trip to Anfield to witness the title celebrations, the American was seen chatting with Alexander-Arnold on the side of the pitch.

There is every chance that the Liverpool right-back has already made up his mind and this is all just clutching at straws.

But he genuinely does not look like a player on the way out of the club at this moment in time.

The next few weeks will determine exactly which way Alexander-Arnold will swing.
