The Sweden international is reportedly prepared to continue his strike until he secures a move or the transfer window closes in five days’ time.
Isak is set to miss Newcastle’s clash with Leeds United on Saturday, having refused to feature against both Aston Villa and Liverpool in recent weeks.
Liverpool are believed to be readying a second bid after their initial £110million offer was rejected over three weeks ago.
However, the Reds are reluctant to make another approach without encouragement from the Newcastle board and remain unwilling to meet the Magpies’ £150m valuation.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has called for clarity over Isak’s future following his side’s narrow defeat to Liverpool in a five-goal thriller at St James’ Park.
Howe said: “We want clarity, we want to move forward, we want the narrative to change because we’re in the start of the season now.
“We’re into the action and we’ve got to get results, and we’ve got to try to focus on what we can control?
We’ve given two really, really good performances, we’ve ended up with one point.
“That’s tough for us to take, especially in this moment where you’re looking for positives to cling to.
“But we battle through and we now go on to Leeds.”
For the deal to go through, several dominoes must fall for Alexander Isak to secure his long-awaited move, according to The Times.
Three key things need to happen for Newcastle United to reconsider their stance and entertain offers for the Sweden striker – two new centre-forwards must be signed, and Liverpool need to submit an improved bid.
Crucially, at least one of those strikers would need to arrive at St James’ Park first.
Even then, that might not be enough to unlock the Isak situation, but it would certainly help.
At present, Newcastle do not have a recognised, experienced centre-forward
As long as that remains the case, Isak is highly unlikely to get his desired move.
