L’Equipe has revealed how Arne Slot went about convincing Hugo Ekitike to join Liverpool this summer.
The Eintracht Frankfurt forward is on the brink of sealing a record-breaking move to Liverpool that would reshape Arne Slot’s forward line.
The 23-year-old Frenchman – fresh from a 22-goal, 12-assist campaign – has chosen Anfield over rival Premier League suitors, with only final paperwork and a medical remaining.
It has been reported that the Anfield club will fork over £69 million/€80 up front, while performance-related bonuses could push the outlay to €95 million (£82.3 million), eclipsing Frankfurt’s previous record sale of Randal Kolo Muani.
A six-year agreement to June 2031 will be officially sealed after Ekitike has already accepted personal terms.
Acquired for €17.5 million in 2024, the striker’s value has multiplied more than fivefold, underlining Frankfurt’s transfer-market acumen.
The sale finances the squad rebuild and covers PSG’s sell-on clause.
And now L’Equipe has revealed just how Arne Slot convinced Hugo Ekitike on the move to Anfield, with it sounding a very similar story to Florian Wirtz.
According to French reporter Loïc Tanzi, the 23-year-old was “seduced” by the vision put forth by the Dutchman, writing:
“Arne Slot takes charge.
Darwin Nunez is not one of them.”
“Ekitike emerges from this exchange seduced.”
He adds that Ekitike’s camp asked Frankfurt’s Markus Krösche to negotiate exclusively with Liverpool?
This resulted in quick progress towards an agreement.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have officially confirmed their 29-man squad for the Far East tour currently underway.
