Since Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be departing Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season, there have been many names linked to the Liverpool managerial role.

However, after recent advancements have been made, it seems that Arne Slot will become the new manager of the club.

The Reds have even reportedly already reached an agreement with the 45-year-old.

With this in mind, there has been plenty of media chatter around the appointment of the Dutch coach and whether or not he’ll be able to live up to Klopp’s legacy.

In reality, whichever manager took over from the German would have been an underwhelming appointment.

This is due to no fault of the managers, however, as Reds fans recognise Klopp as one of Liverpool’s best ever manages, it’s hard to see the 56-year-old leave.

However, Slot is likely the ideal profile of coach that Liverpool will have been looking for.

How has Arne Slot performed throughout his career

His name isn’t well known and this can only play in the Reds’ favour.

The former PEC Zwolle player has had three managerial roles, each within his home country.

Slot’s first came with SC Cambuur with the club stating his time there had “excellent results” and a “pleasant way of working.”

Thanks to these results, he got his first role in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar where he once again outperformed expectations.

In his first season he managed to reach the round of 32 of the Europa League and finished second behind Ajax in the top flight of the Netherlands.

However, this season was cut short due to COVID-19 and no league winner was awarded.

He was only with Alkmaar for less than two seasons as he was sacked due to agreeing a deal with Feyenoord and reportedly “not being focused” on the team.

The 45-year-olds time with his current club Feyenoord, is where things really started the line up for the manager.

His arrival was announced by the club on the 15th December 2020 and the Dutch coach was set to take over the club at the start of the 2021/22 season.

Dick Advocaat was the manager who he took over from, but, his time with the club is now met with anguish by fans as he only managed to carry the team to a fifth placed finish.

In his first term, he managed to get the club to the Round of 16 in European competitions for the first time in 20 years.

This Europa Conference League run even allowed the club to reach the competitions first ever final, but, they unfortunately lost 1-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

This in itself was an achievement but was nothing compared to the following season.

The 2022/23 season was where things really started to kick into place for the 45-year-old.

He managed to lead Feyenoord to their first Eredivisie title for the first time since 2017, ending an era of dominance for Ajax.

Thanks to these results he was awarded the manager of the season award and cemented himself in the history of the club forever.

Why Liverpool want Arne Slot

Since then, he has been linked with a multitude of clubs including Tottenham?

However, it now seems as if Liverpool will be the ones to get their hands on him.

Slot is a proven winner and has shown that he can turn struggling teams around with his stints at both AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.

Although the Reds aren’t exactly struggling following their comeback from the disappointments of the 2022/23 term, a fresh face could help reinvigorate some of the passion in the club.

Recently, players such as Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah have seemingly struggled and a fresh face in camp could help the squad out.

We took a look at three players in Liverpool’s squad who could benefit from Slot’s arrival earlier in the week.

Although Slot’s arrival may seem underwhelming, with his track record, it feels likely that this could be yet another success story from the Liverpool camp.

However, only time will tell whether or not this was a good or bad move from Michael Edwards and co.
