How Arne Slot spent his first two full days as Liverpool Premier League winner

It's nearly a year now since Slot traded Feyenoord for Liverpool, where he has lived on his own while his wife and children have remained in their homeland, and things could hardly have gone more spectacularly, having succeeded Jurgen Klopp.

A coach described as a "football obsessive" has been afforded the time and space, from a professional perspective, to plot and strategise his side's way to the Premier League title outside of working hours due to his family still living in Rotterdam.

After granting his players and staff Monday and Tuesday off to recover from their exertions, particularly after a party in the Carlsberg Dugout of Anfield's Main Stand ran on until 3am for some, Slot was able to enjoy some rare downtime himself.

But while he was back at the stadium itself on Tuesday to take a picture alongside assistant boss Sipke Hulshoff at the updated 'Walk of Champions' that now denotes Liverpool's 20th league titles, the reason for him being at the ground was much more mundane, he explains.

"Monday was my wife's birthday, so she was here together with the children and some friends, so we had lunch together," Slot revealed when asked how he spent his first full day as a Premier League-winning Liverpool boss.

"Tuesday they left, so Tuesday was, I would almost say, going back to normal.

Because Wednesday was the first time we were back together again.

"So players also like to know what their schedule would look like in the upcoming month.

So Tuesday was the first time when I started calling staff members to see how we were going to go through the upcoming weeks, and maybe Wednesday, when we were together with the staff, was the first time you start to think about the Chelsea game."

With four games to negotiate and few mountains left to scale in what must now be considered a wildly successful first term at Liverpool, it was brought to Slot's attention that 19 points is the biggest margin of victory for any Premier League winner, which came back in 2018 when Pep Guardiola's Manchester City collected 100 points to Manchester United's 81.

With the Reds heading into the weekend with a 15-point advantage over an Arsenal side they entertain at Anfield later this month, it's put to the Reds boss that his team have a chance to make further history this term.

"It’s interesting that you tell me this," Slot says.

But I don’t think that will light a fire in many players.

"What could help, we have to wait and see, but add one or two, maybe a bit more, players who haven’t played as much so that they can maybe create a certain new spirit.

"There’s no new spirit needed but you know what I mean.

We could maybe see a player in a certain position, what he does in that position combined with someone else.

"But like I said it is not going to be a big change, there’s not going to be seven or eight new starters.

It’s going to be mostly the same and to see how a few players do in a difficult game like Chelsea away and where they are in their development."
