Jeremie Frimpong has been missing for Liverpool since the opening day of the season.

By the time the Reds face Burnley on Sunday, it will have been two weeks since they were in Premier League action, with their last game being a dramatic 1-0 win over Arsenal.

However, for Frimpong, he has been out of action since gameweek one after picking up a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Bournemouth.

So, instead of going on international duty with the Netherlands like he would have done if he was fit, he has remained at the AXA training centre to continue his rehabilitation.

And, after what will be over a month out, the Dutchman has revealed his feelings on when he thinks he will return.

Frimpong was excellent during his time in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, but he has not really been able to show his full potential just yet at Anfield.

The Dutchman looked good in pre-season and had a decent hour on his Premier League debut, but this injury has left him sidelined ever since.

However, he is not far away from a return according to journalist Lewis Steele, with the 24-year-old back in full training.

Steele reported as per the Daily Mail that Frimpong is hoping to be passed fit to play against Burnley on Sunday, with a late fitness test required.

Liverpool have been playing without a recognised right-back in the last two games due to his injury, as well as Conor Bradley being unavailable for the same reason.

The Northern Irishman did play twice for his country, however, and looked sharp, suggesting Arne Slot could have both now back in time for this game.

It is certainly a huge boost for the Dutchman, whose press conference for the game is at 9am on Friday, with the depth the Reds have now starting to look much better.

As mentioned, Slot has not had a recognised right-back available since that Bournemouth game, meaning that he experimented by playing Dominik Szoboszlai there instead.

And, it has been a roaring success as the Hungarian impressed against both Newcastle and Arsenal, two opponents who have very good options on the wing.

With that said dropping him might seem a little unfair, and against a team like Burnley who will deploy a low block, his creativity could be a huge help.

Just like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Szoboszlai can be a threat in the final third from this position, something that could cause Burnley real problems.

Whether Slot opts to do this is not yet known, but either way, the Hungarian deserves to be in the team, no matter if that be at right-back or in midfield.
