Virgil van Dijk hinted that Liverpool supporters should be excited for the summer when he signed a two-year contract renewal with the Reds toward the end of last season, and he was right to do so.
"I think they (Liverpool) are planning to make it a big summer," Van Dijk said.
" So we all have to trust the board, as a Liverpool connected fan, to do the right job."
Since those comments, the Reds have committed around $350 million to new players in Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Hugo Ekitike.
But it has become clear in recent days that the Reds want to sign both players, much to the excitement of fans around the world.
Luis Diaz's impending move to Bayern Munich is one of the reasons why Liverpool has the funds to pursue Isak, with the Colombian set to fetch $88 million, while Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez could also both raise substantial fees in the coming weeks.
Should Liverpool end up landing Isak, there is absolutely no doubt that Arne Slot's team would be the clear favorite to win the league again next season.
That's assuming Liverpool addresses the center-back position in the coming weeks, with a new defender required following Jarell Quansah's move to Bayer Leverkusen, and with uncertainty surrounding Joe Gomez's fitness.
Gomez flew home Liverpool's preseason tour of China over the weekend due to an Achilles issue, leaving Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as the only senior central defenders who are currently available to Slot.
Liverpool could also sign Marc Guehi
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is an option there, and for the purpose of this article, we've stuck him next to Van Dijk in a hypothetical Liverpool XI for the new season, but he would have some job on his hands to break up the Van Dijk-Konate partnership were he to move to Anfield.
On the left wing, Liverpool continues to be linked with a move for Real Madrid's Rodrygo, although it remains unclear whether Liverpool's finances will stretch so far
Liverpool's possible line-up next season: Alisson Becker; Conor Bradley, Marc Guehi, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez; Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz; Mohamed Salah, Rodrygo, Alexander Isak
