But Liverpool were among a group of clubs ahead of the game when it came to stadium redevelopment, making the most of cheaper financing options and seeing the potential in how making more of the stadium helps them reduce the reliance on broadcast rights fees to prop everything up.
Liverpool's increase in matchday revenue goes hand-in-hand with more commercial activity and, that, in turn, has reduced the ratio when it comes to broadcasting money being crucial to total revenue.
At a time when domestic rights are showing some signs of struggle in the years ahead, more and more clubs are seeking to try and do more, whether that be to increase capacity and create new commercial opportunities, or take on hugely expensive new build projects, such as the case with Manchester United.
Liverpool have long-since been strategically driven, and the club are reaping the benefits when it comes to the stadium, including hosting summer concerts, with a host of stellar artists lined-up for this summer, following on from the success in 2024 with Taylor Swift's three-night sell-out at Anfield - plus two dates from Pink.
"I guess that's why ultimately we opened up the summer window for concerts and obviously we've got a big year of Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey and Bruce Springsteen," said Ben Latty, chief commercial officer for Liverpool, speaking exclusively to the ECHO.
"The summer is obviously a key window for us to try and maximise revenue we can make from our stadium and, you know, clearly, other clubs do that as well.
"I think for us you know it would always be how we try and maximise our matchday revenue.
That does mean that there's pressure elsewhere to try and generate as much revenue as we can, whether that's matchday, commercial or other areas.
I think, for us, trying to squeeze as much as we can out that summer window is going to be key looking what else we can do to use that."
Last month saw another step closer to generating more revenue from the stadium site - with planning permission submitted to Liverpool City Council to expand the club's megastore, next to Anfield.
We're continuing to look at the stadium, and its possibilities, and we have to look under every stone as it relates to how we can maximise revenue we can get from a matchday.
"Ultimately, we want to put the best performing team on the pitch to win trophies, and that's what we're all here for, that's our vision to win the trophies.
