The Reds made a splash overnight on Sunday by agreeing a British record transfer fee with Newcastle for Alexander Isak.

And while Isak’s arrival had been hotly anticipated at Anfield, Liverpool fans also saw the potential signing of Guehi as being key to their season.

The 25-year-old’s move from Crystal Palace has been seesawing on deadline day, with the Eagles adamant that they needed to sign a replacement first.

But with Palace closing in on Brighton defender Igor, news emerged that Guehi is on the verge of joining Liverpool.

And according to journalist Bobby Manzi, the key could have been something Guehi did following Palace’s win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Palace had a brilliant evening on Sunday.

Oliver Glasner’s team have started the season in fine form and continued that with an excellent 3-0 win away at Villa.

Fittingly, Guehi scored an absolutely stunning goal in what now looks like to be his final appearance for the Eagles.

After that game, according to Manzi at least, the England international informed Palace of his wish to join Liverpool on Monday.

“Understand that Marc Guehi informed Crystal Palace of his desire to join Liverpool ahead of the transfer deadline after yesterday’s win at Aston Villa,” the journalist reports on X.

“Liverpool have been waiting for the green light from Palace to proceed with medical and formalities all day.”

Of course, although deals have now been agreed for both Isak and Guehi, Liverpool still have to get the medical tests done and dusted.

While this should not be a problem with three hours still to go before the deadline, it does put the Reds under some time pressure.

Reports have suggested that Guehi is set to have his medical in London, meaning we are unlikely to see signing day content from the England man on Monday.

Isak, meanwhile, has been at the Liverpool training ground earlier in the day.

With things all sorted with Newcastle some 13 hours before Crystal Palace and Guehi, there is much more of a chance we see the Swede in his Reds kit this evening,
