How many games Christantus Uche will have to play for Crystal Palace to sign for £17.3m

A breakdown of Christantus Uche’s loan move from La Liga side Getafe to Crystal Palace has been revealed.

Football Insider exclusively reported that Uche was due to sign for Wolves before a prospective move broke down for the forward, leading to the Getafe man signing on loan for Crystal Palace.

Football Insider also revealed that Leeds United made a push to sign Uche, but failed to secure the 22-year-old’s signature.

West Ham United were also interested in Uche, but evidently, the three-time Nigerian international chose South London as his final destination on deadline day.

Uche is yet to start for Palace since moving from Getafe, but the Nigerian has featured twice as a substitute for Oliver Glasner.

Freelance sports writer Paul Brown has now revealed that reports in Spain suggest there is a clause in Uche’s contract that could make the loan deal permanent.

Brown wrote on X, saying: “Interesting comments from Spain today that Christantus Uche’s loan move from Getafe to Crystal Palace came with a clause stating if he starts 10 games it activates a mandatory purchase option for €20m.

Brown continued, adding: “Hasn’t started a game yet for Crystal Palace and cost Getafe €500,000 in summer 2024.”

Uche came off the bench as Crystal Palace crawled to a 4-2 Carabao Cup victory on penalties after drawing 1-1 in normal time with Millwall.

Since the departure of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, Glasner has struggled to nail down a replacement for the England international.

Daichi Kamada was favoured against Aston Villa, while Yeremy Pino also played in the role against Sunderland, with neither setting the world alight with their performances.

As Uche looks to fight for regular minutes in the side, his creative cameo may earn him a spot in the starting 11, as an heir to Eze.
