How many games Lisandro Martinez has missed for Man United as injury update emerges

All the talk surrounding Manchester United at the moment is on Ruben Amorim, but they could soon welcome Lisandro Martinez back into the fold.

Manchester United need to be very careful how they manage Martinez‘s return, even if the club’s form is so bad that three managers are under consideration to replace Ruben Amorim.

United players are losing faith in Amorim with the Red Devils stranded in 14th place following one win, one draw and two defeats this season.

Some United fans recently protested against a new contract for Martinez, but there is no denying that the former Ajax star is the best defender at the club when fit and firing.

According to journalist Rich Fay, Martinez is training on the grass at Manchester United‘s AON Training Complex.

The club doesn’t want to rush him back but have also “missed him greatly” in his absence.

The Argentine suffered a cruciate ligament injury in February and has been absent since.

While many only expected him to return in 2026, his rapid recovery has seen him back earlier than expected.

However, Man United must be very cautious about bringing him back too soon, not least because of the danger of ACL injuries for footballers, but also because he has a nightmarish injury history that could be further exacerbated.

The 27-year-old joined United in 2022 and ever since, he has been in and out of the side with various injuries.

In total, Martinez has missed 110 games for club and country in the last three years.

United need to be very careful not to worsen the situation.

Of the six injuries the defender has suffered since joining United in 2022, four have been serious.

This is a worrying trend that United’s medical staff need to work with Amorim to curtail.

Having already seen Martinez suffer an ACL, his game time and training load need to be carefully managed.
