Liverpool sit comfortably atop the Premier League table after winning all five of their opening matches of the season.
The Reds have navigated a difficult start to the campaign perfectly, beating Bournemouth, Newcastle, Arsenal, Burnley and Everton.

After Arsenal drew against Manchester City on Sunday, Liverpool are five points clear of any other challenger.
While that is no doubt an ominous sign for those wishing to challenge the champions, it is not an unprecedented start from Arne Slot and his team.
In terms of Liverpool history, it is the third time the club has ever won all five of their opening league fixtures.
The first came in 2018/19, before Jurgen Klopp’s winning machine did eight on the bounce one year later.
Only one of those seasons ended with Liverpool winning the Premier League, and in the division’s history, 11 more teams have won their first five, with mixed results.

Liverpool fans have seen too much to be getting carried away with their excellent start.
You only have to look at 18/19, where Klopp’s team won their first six before losing the title by one point.
And as the Premier League pointed out on Instagram over the weekend, other teams have dropped even further when starting perfectly.

The first team to do it are also coincidentally the worst finishers.
Newcastle had 15 points from 15 before finishing sixth in 1994/95.
It was ten years before anyone achieved such a perfect start again, although Arsenal could not maintain it and finished second in 2004/05.

Chelsea, Man United and Man City have all fallen victim to the same storyline as well, with five such good results often not translating into success over a full season.
Chelsea came second in 2010/11 and third in 2018/19, United were runners-up in 2011/12, while City were fourth in 2015/16 and third a year later.
Amazingly, and somewhat soberingly for Liverpool, only four of the 13 teams to finish a season after winning their first five have won it.
The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson may have the muscle memory of 19/20, and that may help them, but they weren’t the last team to do it.
City began the season on fire in 2023/24 and maintained it all the way to the finish line, while Chelsea are the only team to have managed this particular feat twice.
The Blues won the league under Jose Mourinho in 2005/06 after five wins from five, and did it again with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm in 2009/10.
Liverpool will be hoping to add their name to this list come next May, but history tells them this is not as straightforward as it possibly should be.
