Liverpool’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz has entered its final phase, with wide-spread reports indicating that Liverpool and Leverkusen are on the verge of striking an agreement.

It would be a club-record deal for Liverpool as well as a Premier League record transfer that could exceed €150 million (£126.7 million).

The 22-year-old German international, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most coveted talents, has already agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract at Anfield, signaling his commitment to joining Arne Slot’s Premier League champions.

However, complexities in the payment structure means that the two clubs have been locked in talks.

It’s clear Bayer Leverkusen aim to extract maximum value for their 22-year-old talisman, and rightfully so as he is a generational talent.

A crucial element of this transfer is the allocation of training compensation.

Under FIFA rules, five percent of the total transfer fee must be distributed among the clubs that contributed to the player’s development between the ages of 12 and 23.

For Florian Wirtz, who left 1.

FC Köln for Bayer Leverkusen in January 2020 at just 16 years old, which means his former club will benefit financially.

Köln are set to receive around three million euros from the deal.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool or Leverkusen will pay the training fee, or if both clubs agree on each paying a certain % of the training fee.

And while it’s been revealed already that the 22-year-old will pen a 5-year deal on Merseyside, how much will he be earning?

German outlet BILD have asserted that Wirtz will be among the highest earners at the club, just behind Mohamed Salah at 20 and 22 million euros per year:

“Liverpool also pays handsomely.

But less than would have been possible for Wirtz in Munich,” wrote Axel Hesse.

“According to information from SPORT BILD, he will not rise to become the top earner at the ‘Reds’.”

“That remains Mo Salah (32), who recently extended his contract until 2027 and is said to earn between 23 and 25 million euros including bonuses per season.”

“Wirtz will follow behind him in the future.

His salary is expected to be between 20 and 22 million euros per year, depending on success.”

The 22-year-old has publicly dismissed rumors about demanding Alexis Mac Allister’s No?

Don’t believe everything that’s written”.

The player himself has seemingly confirmed that the transfer is imminent and will happen.
