Crystal Palace are set to land a huge fee from Arsenal for Eberechi Eze, but QPR will also be checking their bank statements soon for incoming funds.

Palace signed Eze from QPR back in the summer of 2020, with the 12-time England international since going on to notch 40 goals and 28 assists in 169 appearances for the Eagles — culminating in recent FA Cup and Community Shield titles.

Now, Eze is on the verge of leaving Selhurst Park.

Tottenham looked set to sign the 27-year-old for a long time this summer, before arch-rivals Arsenal swooped in and hijacked their bid.

And it’s a deal that will also greatly benefit Championship outfit QPR.

According to Sky Sports (21 August), Arsenal will pay Palace a whopping £67.5m for one of the transfers of the summer, with Eze set to become the Gunners’ third-most expensive player of all time.

But not all of that fee can be kept by Palace, with QPR holding a 15% sell-on clause that relates to any profit made over the £16m the Eagles paid for Eze in the first place.

That means QPR will pocket a handsome £6m from this deal, making their total income from Eze £22m — comfortably their biggest sale of all time.

Though they’re not likely to receive the funds in time for the current transfer window, the fact that QPR have only spent £5.8m this summer (Transfermarkt) is an indicator enough as to just how useful this cash injection will be for the Championship outfit.

Eze will fill attacking midfield and wing slots for Mikel Arteta to a world-class level, and genuinely has the potential to tip the scales in Arsenal’s favour over Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

That’s the view of former Gunners star Paul Merson, who believes the pressure is now well and truly on Arteta to end the club’s 21-year title drought after capturing ‘different class’ Eze.

“I don’t think he walks straight in and plays this weekend against Leeds, but when they put their best team out against Liverpool and Manchester City at home, he plays.

He’s the X-Factor, the missing piece of Arsenal winning the Premier League,” Merson told Sky.

“The pressure is now on to win the Premier League.
