A new update has emerged on Ibrahima Konate and interest from Real Madrid.

The Frenchman’s current deal expires in June 2026, placing him firmly in the final year of his Liverpool contract.

Despite multiple attempts by sporting director Richard Hughes to secure the defender’s long-term future, negotiations have stalled dramatically.

The France international has reportedly rejected three separate contract extension offers from Liverpool.

Madrid view Konate as an ideal long-term replacement for veterans David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger and have earmarked him as one of their first targets for 2026—though they “don’t want to upset Liverpool”.

Should Konate remain steadfast, he could sign a free transfer pre-contract next January, leaving Liverpool with the unenviable choice of cashing in next winter or losing him for nothing in the summer.

Just like Alexander-Arnold before him, Konate finds himself in the enviable position of holding all the cards with less than 12 months remaining on his current deal?

Real Madrid’s interest in both players follows an identical pattern.

DaveOCKOP.com reported in August that the Reds hierarchy ideally wanted the defender to commit to new terms before the transfer window slammed shut.

Now Catalan newspaper E-Noticias has reported that Los Blancos are now willing to go “all out” for Konate in January, and are read to offer 40 million euros:

“Madrid are going all out for Ibrahima Konaté, Liverpool’s central defender whose contract expires in June 2026,” it’s reported.

“Konate is still not renewing and Madrid are planning to offer 40 million euros in this upcoming winter transfer window.”

“Liverpool could accept, especially because they do not want to let the Frenchman escape for free.”
