The England youth international, who became Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer at just 16 years and 361 days old when he netted the winner at St James’ Park on Monday night, will be eligible to put pen to paper on a deal worth up to three years – the maximum duration allowed for a first professional contract.
Currently on a standard academy scholarship worth approximately £300 per week, Ngumoha’s promotion to the senior ranks reflects Liverpool’s confidence in a player who has impressed manager Arne Slot throughout pre-season.
The new deal will likely run until 2028.
Former Chelsea captain John Terry, who worked with Ngumoha in the Blues’ academy setup, previously predicted the winger would become a “top, top player”.
That assessment has proven prophetic, with Ngumoha’s composed finish in the 100th minute at Newcastle showcasing maturity beyond his years.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding what Ngumoha could earn from his new deal.
Lewis Steele, writing in his Liverpool Confidential, has revealed that the Anfield club are not going not break their structure for Ngumoha’s new deal.
Currently, Ngumoha earns around £300 per week, typical for a scholar.
This new deal will see his wages rise modestly to approximately £1,000 per week, reflecting Liverpool’s policy of maintaining reasonable salary structures for emerging players:
“At the moment, it is said that Ngumoha is paid roughly £300 a week,” Lewis Steele wrote.
“When he signs his first professional contract in the coming days or weeks, that will rise – but he still will be earning a modest wage that insiders say could be worth around £1,000 a week.”
“Remember that academy director Alex Inglethorpe introduced a wage cap of just over £50,000 a year as well as banning cars with an engine above 1.3litres.”
Speaking after his winner against Newcastle on Monday, Ngumoha said:
“The fans, I heard them screaming my name and that’s a sensational moment I would say.”
“But you can’t get too carried away with all the noise, like I said, because at the end of the day I probably do that finish 100 times on the training ground so it’s no different with the fans [here].”
“But obviously the fans backing you there, it’s just crazy.”
“I’m 16 but I don’t want my age to show that I can’t play with the older players
I want to prove a point that I can play with not just people my age but many ages above.”
