At first glance, it may seem unusual for Liverpool to receive money for a player set to leave as a free agent.
However, in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s case, there’s a unique situation involving the timing of his departure and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
While Trent’s contract with Liverpool runs until June 30, 2025, the Club World Cup kicks off two weeks earlier on June 15.
With Real Madrid eager to include Trent in their squad for the tournament, they are required to negotiate an early release with Liverpool, since he will still be under contract when the competition kicks off.
Interestingly, this move also aligns with the Premier League’s short summer transfer window, which includes an early registration period from June 1 to June 10.
To make that happen, Real Madrid will have to pay some amount to Liverpool.
This amount will ensure the player to join the Spanish side and participate fully in the competition.
In a recent report shared by El Chiringuito TV, it has been revealed that “Real Madrid will pay Liverpool around €5 million to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold’s arrival a few weeks before his contract expires”.
Although Trent was suppose to leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the month, this early move ensures the club still gains some amount of transfer fee for their homegrown talent.
