Liverpool have a fairly steep hill to climb if they wish to advance into the semi-finals of the Europa League.

In their home fixture, the Reds managed to succumb to a 3-0 loss against Atalanta.

This result was one of the most unexpected of the quarter-finals with many believing that Liverpool would be too much to handle for the Bergamo outlet.

However, despite Gian Piero Gasperini claiming before the game that Jurgen Klopp’s men were “the favourites of the tournament” Atalanta defied the odds and defeated Liverpool on their own turf.

Thursday’s clash between is one of the make or break points of the Reds’ season.

Despite the 2022/23 season being one of the worst throughout Klopp’s tenure, the 2023/24 season started with the club on the up.

However, since the squad have returned from their most recent international break, it feels as if the team have capitulated on themselves.

Over the last month, Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United and also managed to drop points to their rivals.

Their most recent outing against Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace wasn’t up to much either.

The Reds lost their first game at Anfield in over three years and were 1-0 down from the 14th minute.

If their form carries on like this, Klopp’s fairy tale final season could be in tatters.

One thing that could go their way, however, is the fact that the Italian side dropped points against Hellas Verona despite leading from the first 20 minutes.

This draw could lead to Atalanta coming into Thursday’s game with a chip on their shoulder and could result in them performing below par.

Which, for Liverpool, would be ideal.

Each player will have to play to their best in order for the club to stand a chance.

Prior to last Thursday’s clash, it was seen as an ‘easy’ win for Liverpool and many predicted them to make it all the way to the final.

However, their European dreams now hang in the balance, and, if the players wish to make Klopp’s final season one which he deserves, they will have to be on top form.

Although a 4-0 win seems unlikely, it’s nothing which Liverpool haven’t done before so all hope isn’t lost just yet.

Here’s hoping that the Merseyside club get granted another European comeback for the ages.
