Ekitike, 23, joined the Reds in July for a remarkable £79million from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Just four minutes into Liverpool's Community Shield defeat by Crystal Palace, Ekitike made his mark in spectacular fashion.

For those familiar with Ekitike, his assured swagger, delicate touches and stylish finish came as no shock.

The young talent initially made his reputation at French outfit Reims, where his belief in his own capabilities began to flourish, as he once challenged a coach privately to question why he wasn't playing.

The club's manager at the time, David Guion, was struck by a 17-year-old Ekitike, then appearing in the reserves, and invited him to come and train with the senior squad.

Understandably, given his age and reserve team status, Ekitike was not selected.
