Hugo Ekitike lays out personal wishlist after first Merseyside Derby goal

The French forward has scored four goals in seven appearances for his new side and looks to be an excellent addition by Arne Slot.

He got his first taste of a Merseyside Derby yesterday and capped his first appearance off with a smartly taken goal which ended up being the eventual winner for Liverpool.

Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring at Anfield with a well taken finish on the 10th minute mark, before Hugo Ekitike doubled the lead in the 29th minute, latching on to a well placed through ball from Ryan Gravenberch and finishing clinically.

Idrissa Gana Gueye scored a consolation goal for Everton in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as Liverpool held out for all three points.

Despite only just signing for the club following his move from Eintracht Frankfurt, the young Frenchman realised the importance of the fixture and reflected on that post-match, saying:

“Obviously I knew that game was really important for the fans, so a win today was important.

We just have to keep going.”

Ekitike was proud to have made another contribution for the Premier League champions, but has now set himself a wishlist for the future.

“I want to score every game, if you ask me.

The last game I didn’t score but I always try to find a way to make the difference.”

“It can be a goal, an assist, a run to create space for another player.

It’s good.”

“At the end, the most important [thing] is the team and it’s the three points today.”

The Frenchman felt the power of Anfield throughout the game, saying:

“It’s top, honestly I really like it.

So, I will try to keep scoring for the fans.”

Fans were heard signing their new chant for Hugo Ekitike post-match, as they showed their appreciation to a player who has had an extremely successful start to life on Merseyside.
