Liverpool may have flown off to Asia to kick-start their pre-season tour but transfer business continues closer to home.

The Reds have shown this summer that when they identify a clear target, they will do absolutely everything in their power to wrap a deal up as quickly as possible.

And, following some downtime after mourning the death of Diogo Jota, Liverpool have picked up where they left off and have continued to be active.

They are still expected to complete a few more signings before their curtain-raiser on 15th August against Bournemouth, and one in particular will likely happen much sooner than many would have thought.

After the announcement on Sunday that Liverpool had agreed a deal for striker Hugo Ekitike, the Reds have intensified negotiations to ensure the transfer happens sooner rather than later.

In fact, the Frenchman could become a Red as early as Tuesday as he is set to undergo his medical on the same day, with the 23-year-old being given permission to fly to complete his move.

Ekitike was convinced by Arne Slot to join as soon as he first spoke to him, and the deal has been pretty plain sailing ever since.

The £69m striker could wear the number 15 shirt upon his arrival, with this being left vacant ever since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain departed in 2023.

Liverpool fans would have assumed that they would get either Alexander Isak or Ekitike, but how about both?

Well, this is still a possibility as Liverpool are yet to rule out a move for the Swede and they could still put in a formal offer worth around £120m.

Former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew believes that Isak’s head has been turned and they have a battle to keep hold of him, with this story taking a twist each day.

Isak is also said to be open to listening to offers from Saudi Arabia, although competing for the biggest trophies is something he has always said he wants to do.

In terms of transfers, Monday has been quieter than usual, although Luis Diaz is still linked with a move away and Lyon’s Malick Fofana could be his replacement.

However, reports suggest that Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is almost certain to arrive at Anfield if the Colombian does depart, with Bayern Munich set to bid again very soon for the 28-year-old.

Elsewhere, it has been a big day for the youngsters.

James McConnell is set to sign a new contract at Liverpool before going out on loan, while Trey Nyoni has impressed fans with his display against Stoke.

Luca Stephenson could also be a player to watch this summer as the 21-year-old has been taken on the squad’s pre-season tour of Asia, with the future of Liverpool looking very bright indeed.
