Liverpool star Hugo Ekitike has sent a message to former club Eintracht Frankfurt following the Champions League draw.

The Reds will face the Bundesliga club in this season's competition.

Ekitike will come up against the club that reignited his career, which catapulted him onto Liverpool's transfer shortlist.

And the German club fired a message to the forward, who departed in the summer in a move that could rise to £79million.

The official Eintracht Frankfurt X account posted a picture of Ekitike in the club strip with: "Heki (sic) is coming home," on the picture alongside the caption: "Nothing to add."

Ekitike made it three goals in as many games and two in England's top-flight during the dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle United on Monday.

Ekitike's goal immediately after the restart for the second-half appeared to give the Reds an unassailable lead; however, the Magpies fought back, with Liverpool surrendering a two-goal lead in back-to-back matches – after Antoine Semenyo's double cancelled out the advantage for Arne Slot's side.

The Frenchman and his teammates will learn how the fixture schedule looks when they are released on Saturday, with the path to the Champions League knockouts becoming clearer.
