Hugo Ekitike has shown his support for Liverpool teammate Jayden Danns after a performance of mixed emotions against Southampton.

Alexander Isak also scored for the Reds, with both of the club's summer signings playing a key role in the victory.

Soon after scoring the winning goal for Liverpool, Ekitike was booked for taking his shirt off during his celebration.

The caution was his second of the match, which meant the France international was sent off and will now serve a one-match suspension.

The red card means that Ekitike will miss the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace, which could present an opportunity for Danns to get some minutes.

The teenager was introduced to the game in the 75th minute and went on to send a message on social media after the final whistle.

Danns posted three photos on Instagram from his appearance for Liverpool against Southampton, which accrued plenty of 'likes', including one from Ekitike.

The red card from Ekitike could see Arne Slot turn to Danns in some capacity for the trip to Selhurst Park at the weekend, with Isak's fitness still being managed after the Sweden international scored his first goal of the season against the Saints.

Slot was asked about the red card from Ekitike, which the Liverpool head coach referred to as "needless" and "stupid".
