The first international break of the new season is nearly upon us.

After Liverpool face off in a crucial battle with Arsenal at Anfield later today, players who have been selected to represent their national teams will take part in the matches over the break.

One player who deserved a call up is Hugo Ekitike but the new Liverpool forward was left out amid heavy competition in his position within Didier Deschamps squad.

There were rumours that he was set to receive his first ever call-up but Ekitike will be waiting a little bit longer to represent France on the international stage.

The French forward has started life brilliantly for Liverpool, scoring in each of his first three competitive matches with the Reds.

Scoring at Wembley on his debut against Crystal Palace was impressive in itself, but then to go and score against Bournemouth at Anfield and against Newcastle United at the hostile St.

James Park, Hugo Ekitike has set himself up for a bright future in Red.

Hugo Ekitike was born to a Cameroonian father and a French mother, allowing him to be eligible to represent both national teams.

During a recent press conference, Cameroon head coach Marc Brys had some extremely strong words to say about if he’d ever consider Ekitike for selection.

“I haven’t contacted him.

He put all his money into trying to play for France and he didn’t succeed.

He doesn’t deserve to come here.”

Strong words indeed, and whilst the bridge with Cameroon may be burnt, Ekitike will have a much brighter future ahead with France, a country known for competing for the biggest trophies during every international tournament.

He will be hoping that his strong start to Liverpool continues, and that he will eventually work his way into Deschamps’ plans.
