According to BILD, Ekitike will join Liverpool from Frankfurt in a transfer worth in the region of £82m.
It is claimed that the two clubs have struck an agreement, and his move now awaits formal completion in the coming days.
Frankfurt are said to have already decided against including the 23-year-old in their travelling squad for a training camp in the United States.
The Bundesliga club leave for the US on Tuesday, but Ekitike will not be on the plane after already missing Saturday's 3-2 friendly win against regional league outfit FSV Frankfurt.
