Liverpool look to be closing in on a transfer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
But it seems that the spending is not stopping there.
Liverpool are keen to add to their attacking options and appear to be closing in on a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
Here is a look at the latest on a potential move for the striker.
On Saturday night it was reported by Sky Sports that the Reds had submitted a new offer to Frankfrurt for the striker, starting at €80 million (£69m) and rising to a potential €90 million (£78m) with add-ons.
The offer came after the latest round of talks between the two clubs.
Newcastle United are also interested in the striker and saw an offer of £70 million turned down earlier in the week.
Talks between Liverpool and Frankfurt are said to be positive, it is however added that the German club were yet to respond to the latest offer.
It seems that the latest bid may have signalled big progress in the potential transfer, with the Athletic reporting that there is now the ‘outline of an agreement’ between the two clubs.
Work is however still needed over the couple of days.
It is said that Frankfurt hope that, if the add-ons are reached then it would surpass the €95 million (£82.3m) that they earned from the sale of Randal Kolo Muani to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.
Bild report that the broad agreement is for around €95 million (£82.5m).
Ekitike’s current club dropped a hint that a move could be on the cards on Saturday when they took on FSV Frankfurt in a pre-season friendly.
They came out as 3-2 winners in the game, but Ekitike was left as an unused substitute.
The fact that they didn’t turn to him in the game hints that they may have been protecting him ahead of an imminent transfer.
Bild report that Ekitike missed the game due to injury concerns, and it has already been decided that the player will not travel with the club to their training camp in the USA on Friday.
If a full agreement is reached with Frankfurt, then it’s not thought that personal terms between Ekitike and Liverpool will be a problem with reports suggesting that the player is keen on a move to Anfield.
Journalist Fabrice Hawkins claims that personal terms have already been agreed with the player, and he will sign a six-year contract at Anfield if negotiations between the clubs go well.
