Liverpool have been handed a significant boost amid their hopes of signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike this summer.
The Reds, along with Chelsea, are reportedly showing an interest in the Frenchman.
Chelsea did appear to be leading the race for the striker - but it now appears that Liverpool have been offered a chance to make their move.
According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, the Blues have failed to reach a full agreement with Frankfurt for the forward, and have now given up completing a deal before the Club World Cup, while Liverpool are mentioned as still being in the race.
It's said no official offer was made by Chelsea.
Clubs competing in the tournament have until 7pm this evening to complete deals for players who they wish to play in he United States.

The transfer market then closes before re-opening on Monday, 16 June and remaining open until the deadline on September 1 (7pm).
Enzo Maresca's side beat the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United to complete that signing.
That might make them more reluctant to spend big on Ekitike, who scored 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Frankfurt in 2024/2025.
