Hugo Ekitike has already pinpointed the two key things that will allow him and new arrival Alexander Isak to thrive in the same Liverpool team.

Ekitike was signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79million in July.

The forward, 23, arrived expecting to be the Reds’ primary centre-forward option, following the tragic death of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez’s exit.

The Frenchman’s celebration after scoring against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield last month appeared to be in response to the conversation surrounding his place in the team amid reports of Liverpool’s first bid for Isak.

The Premier League champions on transfer deadline day ended the saga of the summer by completing their signing of the Swede for a British record transfer of £125m.

It remains to be seen how Slot will utilise two of Europe’s most exciting strikers: whether they will be used together or be rotated over the course of the season.

Ekitike will be no stranger to the former option, having played in a front-two at Eintracht Frankfurt last season.

He formed a fearsome partnership with Omar Marmoush, scoring 22 goals while his Egyptian team-mate scored 20 before his January move to Manchester City.

And Ekitike even provided a clue as to what will get himself and Isak ticking as a forward combination by referencing his chemistry with Marmoush last season.

Today, it's great.

"The other players trust us and so does the coach.

And giving back means performing well."

The former Reims player also said: “When I came last season, we took time to play together and to know what he likes on the pitch, what I like also, and I think in time we just created a connection.

"We do play very well together, we understand each other and it’s only getting better, as our opponents will find out."

However Slot proceeds to use Isak and Ekitike, there is no doubt that the Reds have considerable firepower at their disposal this season.
