Alan Myers has provided a new update for Everton fans regarding the current status of a deal to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton.

The Toffees are likely quaking in their boots ahead of the new season after a torrid pre-season, failing to win a single-match thus far.

Moreover, they are looking thin in crucial areas of the pitch including at the back where sensational centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite hasn’t featured in three matches.

Additionally, the blue half of Merseyside has a gaping hole on the right side of the midfield where James Garner has playing in an unfamiliar position.

David Moyes has been interested in signing Jack Grealish on loan from Man City, but a deal is still yet to be finalised.

Their attention has turned to Saints prospect Dibling who remains a must-have to fill the void on the right-wing.

This comes after the academy graduate was withdrawn from training after personally requesting to leave the club (BBC Sport).

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

The Toffees had a previous bid of £27million rejected (Sky Sports) by the south coast side for the teenager as they look to go again to bring in the talented youngster.

A post on X stated that Everton are in danger of missing out on the exciting teenager with both Tottenham and Newcastle showing interest.

After being asked by a Toffees fan for an update, former Head of Communications at Goodison Park Myers replied (7 August) to give a crucial shred of hope for Evertonians.

Despite being unsuccessful initially Myers understands that Everton’s offer is still there for the taking, he said: “Bid remains on the table I believe.”

Supposedly negotiations remain ongoing for the winger’s signature with Southampton proving unwilling to budge for a low-ball offer.

Football Insider verdict

Undeniably, the 19-year-old has heaps of potential after his flashes of brilliance in the English top-flight last year.

Yet, I stress the “flashes” of brilliance given the technical winger was not consistent enough, albeit in a woeful Southampton side.

But, for the Saints to place a hefty £40m price tag (Sky Sports) is baffling in my opinion for a young lad who has huge amounts of work to do to improve his all-round game.

Indeed, there is something exciting about seeing a dribbler with the low shin pads, but scoring just four goals in 38 appearances highlights he has much to develop.

In my opinion, it seems better for the Englishman to stay another year on the south coast, especially under the engaging management of Will Still.

The ex-Lens coach is an enigma of the modern management game and is tipped to take the Saints straight back up in his first season.
