Liverpool are undergoing a major rebuild at Anfield this summer.

The Reds may have been one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last season, but that hasn’t stopped them from adding more firepower to their ranks.

Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool future has been up in the air for as long as many can remember, with the attacker failing to live up to expectations during the 2024-25 campaign.

And now that his move to Napoli has fallen through, it’s unclear where the next step of his career is going to take him.

As mentioned, Napoli have been the team most linked with a move for Nunez this summer, with Antonio Conte trying to find Romelu Lukaku a solid partner.

Talks between Liverpool and the Serie A champions have been ongoing since the start of June, but due to the fee Liverpool were demanding, the transfer was called off.

“[Nunez] is still trying to find a solution to leave Liverpool this summer,” he said.

“Napoli was quite disappointing from the player from what I can tell you because the player was really open to joining Napoli, [he was] excited by the opportunity to try a new chapter in Serie A, an exciting project with Antonio Conte as a coach.

“[They are] the champions of Italy, playing Champions League football with ambitions this season so Darwin was very open to that opportunity.”

Since the goal for both Liverpool and Nunez is for him to find a way out of Anfield this summer, that’s likely to be one of the Reds’ main focuses over the next couple of weeks.

And, later in the Here We Go Podcast, Romano also confirmed that he expects Saudi clubs to make a move for the Uruguayan soon.

“For Darwin, keep an eye on Saudi clubs, I think from Saudi they can return, it was Al-Nassr in January and then they signed John Duran, who has already left the club,” he said.

“Now, there could be different clubs involved in the conversation, but I think Saudi can still be a solution for Darwin with important proposals to come and approaches already made.”

Only time will tell what the future has in store, but with the way things seem to be headed at Anfield, it doesn’t feel likely that Nunez will be a Liverpool player when the 2025-26 Premier League season kicks off.
