Neil Lennon has opened up on how he was blown away by Jeremie Frimpong after signing the Dutchman for Celtic.
Signing for Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021, the Netherlands international would go on to win a German double under Xabi Alonso in 2023/24.
Liverpool would quickly move to sign the Netherlands international after it became clear that Trent Alexander-Arnold would not be signing a new contract with the club, as the Reds activated Frimpong’s £29.5m release clause.

And Lennon has shared his delight for his former player as he recalled how Frimpong previously caught his eye as a teenager.
“Frimpong, I got him for £250k!
“We played a bounce game, Man City brought an Under-21s team up.
“I went down to watch it and just saw this kid and was just like, ‘Oh, he’s good!’ He kept going and he had great fitness levels, good speed, good technique.

“I was looking for a right-back, thought he could… ‘Yeah, he’s alright, him’.
I’m so happy for him.”
Of course, Frimpong is not the first of Lennon’s former Celtic players to go on to sign for Liverpool.
The former Northern Ireland international also managed Virgil van Dijk during his first stint at Parkhead, prior to the Dutchman’s switch to Southampton.
And admitting he still can’t quite believe how Celtic managed to sign the Netherlands international in the first place, he recalled how Arsenal once enquired about the now Liverpool captain only to decide against making a move.
“We watched videos of him (Van Dijk) and were like, ‘F**king hell!
“Johan (Mjallby, Celtic assistant manager) went to watch him, came back.
“And you know what Johan’s like - ‘Oh yeah, he’s good but he should do this better, he should do that better.’ As a defender, Johan took a lot of pride in that.
“But I don’t know how the club did it but he got him for like £2.2m.
And as soon as he walked in the building, you’re like ‘F**king hell, he’s phenomenal.
