Jamie Carragher told Super Sunday on Sky Sports that Liverpool fans text him saying ‘we never went onto the pitch’ as they made reference to Manchester United supporters getting onto the Old Trafford turf.

The Liverpool legend backed Manchester United fans’ protests against the Glazer ownership and stated he doesn’t like this ‘points scoring’ between rival fans.

Liverpool’s away clash at Manchester United had to be postponed on Sunday after fans vented their anger towards their American owners, which in turn, resulted in the postponement of English football’s biggest fixture.

There was widespread debate about Sunday’s event, as Carragher was firmly on the side of the Manchester United fans.

“I have just been looking on my phone and the reaction from Liverpool supporters,” said Carragher. “You go back a few weeks and some Liverpool supporters were involved in something with a bus and it got plenty of criticism.

“There will always be idiots, who get involved in things. What Manchester United fans have done. I think it’s a good thing.

“I have seen it before with Liverpool fans, at times. One clip goes everywhere and there are lots of other people doing really good things. I don’t want to use this for supporters, from all different clubs, scoring points from Manchester United. I don’t like to see with my own in Liverpool.

“Liverpool fans got owners out previously. Now, you do it in different ways. I have got Liverpool fans texting me right now saying ‘we never went onto the pitch’. It’s what I said before that I don’t like it, all of this points scoring.”

It’s not yet known when Liverpool will now face Manchester United because it has big consequences on their race to finish in the top four.

Liverpool don’t have any European fixtures coming up, but Manchester United do, including a midweek game against Leicester City next week.

So, it will be interesting to see how the game is squeezed in because the message from the majority of Man United supporters was loud and correct on Sunday.

And if those who need to take notice haven’t stood up yet, they will be standing up and listening to the supporters now.
