Tottenham now have a major issue for the rest of the season following a big blow in the transfer market.
Spurs missed out on a number of big targets over the course of the summer, most notably having their deal for Eberechi Eze hijacked by Arsenal.
Thomas Frank’s side also failed to get a move for Morgan Gibbs-White over the line, with Nottingham Forest blocking the transfer at the last moment.
Despite these failed attempts, Tottenham did manage to secure the signings of Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, and Randal Kolo Muani, among others.
However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the North London club should have done more business to strengthen their squad.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Tottenham have a major squad depth issue and will be in big trouble if injuries hit.

James Maddison is already out for the majority of the season after undergoing surgery on his knee.
Wyness added that he was underwhelmed by Spurs’ transfer activity, as they missed out on the likes of Morgan Rogers.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, I think there is an issue of depth, and I was underwhelmed by the Spurs’ transfer window.
“I expected Morgan Rogers to be a Spurs player.
I expected another couple of marquee signings, and I expected Spurs to be up there with Arsenal and Liverpool in terms of expenditure.
“Overall, it’s not a terrible window and they’ve added some quality players, but the lack of depth in the squad is a key thing.
“I have a lot of time for Thomas Frank.
I think he’ll do well with them this year again through all the European football, and that’s where you need that depth.
“I expect a vastly improved season compared to last year but still being able to push on harder is what I’d expected and that hasn’t quite happened, so I think we’re going to see a workman-like season from Spurs.
“Last year the injuries really hurt them, and this season it could be the same if they’re not careful.
So injuries are the one thing to look out for Thomas Frank.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will reportedly have had an eye on a potential sale this summer.
That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley, who claims that the Champions League would be a “huge factor” when Spurs are eventually sold.
Winning the Europa League final was the saving grace for the Tottenham, although it was not enough to keep Ange Postecoglou in the job, as the North London side slumped to a 17th-placed finish.
Frank, who replaced Postecoglou, will lead his side into the Champions League group phase, with the hopes of progressing to the knockout rounds.
