Liverpool’s youngsters have not been quite as visible this season under Arne Slot after bursting through during the previous regime.
Jurgen Klopp was absolutely dedicated to giving academy players a chance to shine in the first-team, but while Slot arrived with a reputation for doing the same, that has not been in evidence so far.
Nevertheless, that does not mean the Liverpool head coach has overlooked young prospects completely.
Almost as soon as he walked through the door, Slot was impressed by midfielder Trey Nyoni.
The 17-year-old was given chances and took them during pre-season.
This translated to five appearances in the first-team Liverpool squad when the season got underway, with Nyoni taking small steps towards becoming a genuine midfield option.
The former Leicester City teenager has caught the eye whenever involved, and has now suggested he’s modelling his game on legendary former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago’s Liverpool career will always be etched with regret.
Nevertheless, when he was on it, he was a joy to watch.

And having seen Thiago up close during his first year at Liverpool last season, Nyoni has told liverpoolfc.com that he is attempting to model his game on the 34-year-old.
“Just his calmness on the ball, how elegant he is and he was also underrated off the ball as well – he used to work hard a lot as well,” says the youngster.
“Just his elegance on the ball is just top.”

“I was playing midfield before I came here, so I had already started playing in all different roles – like a six, eight and 10.
I think it’s good for me anyway because I feel like I get a lot of the ball.
“Because I like when I can see the game and can play the ball through the lines.”
With Slot playing Ryan Gravenberch into the ground a little this season, it’s clear that a rotational option is needed for the Dutchman next year.
While Stefan Bajcetic is expected to be given a chance to impress in pre-season, Liverpool have also been linked with making an addition in the transfer market.
Angelo Stiller is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar as they look for a cost-effective option who can provide depth and cover for Gravenberch.
But although Bajcetic and someone like Stiller would be worth trying, Nyoni should not be discounted.
