'I get that': Darren Bent could see £20m ace who's 'one of the best in the league' joining Liverpool this summer

This summer is likely to be a busy one for Liverpool, who will need to bring a new manager in as well as bolster their squad.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will step down at the end of the season, so the club is currently looking for a replacement.

And with the summer transfer window on the horizon, there’s a good chance we’ll see new players join Liverpool ahead of their new era.

The Reds may potentially be looking for a new goalkeeper, with Caoimhin Kelleher backed to seek a move in pursuit of regular first-team football.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool would not stand in the Irishman’s way if he wanted to leave, and they’re already monitoring potential replacements.

Now, talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has spoken on the radio station about a top Premier League keeper who he could see potentially joining the Reds if certain things happen.

Bent believes that, were Alisson Becker to leave Liverpool this summer, he “would get it” if the Reds went for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

The pundit was speaking about the Villans ace in wake of his heroics against both Arsenal in the Premier League and Lille in the Europa Conference League.

Martinez saved two penalties in the latter game, helping Villa reach their first European semi-final since 1982.

The £20million man also wound up the opposition fans, earning himself a yellow card in the shoot-out.

Bent began by hailing the Liverpool first-choice, saying: “I think Alisson is the best, like all-round.

“But, Martinez, man, he makes saves, he comes for crosses, he is big and strong, he has got a little bit of edge.

“He is, right now, definitely one of the best in the league.”

When asked if Martinez could leave Villa in the summer transfer window if a bigger club came for him, Bent said: “I get that.

If Alisson was to leave in the summer and Liverpool go, I would get it.”

Martinez would certainly be a good shout for Liverpool, although a lot would need to happen for this to become a reality.

Bent seemed to be speaking hypothetically anyway.

Alisson’s contract at Liverpool runs until 2027, and besides some reports in Brazil linking him with a return to Internacional – which the agent rubbished – there hasn’t been much suggesting he could leave Anfield.

And while Kelleher may leave Liverpool, Martinez is unlikely to leave and become a second-choice, even at a top club.
