Bayer Leverkusen's managing director Fernando Carro has confirmed the existence of a release clause for Jeremie Frimpong.

But he says he is unaware of any imminent move from Liverpool.

The Reds have been named in connection with a deal for Netherlands international Frimpong following the decision by Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave the club at the end of the season, which was made public earlier this month.

Frimpong's release terms are thought to be triggered at around the £30m mark and reports this week claimed Liverpool are ready to pay the fee to bring the right-back to Anfield to add to what is already a strong Oranje contingent in Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.

It's understood Frimpong is a player who is admired by the Reds and it's reported that the player himself would jump at the chance to move to the new Premier League champions, should a formal offer materialise.

Carro, though, says that while the 24-year-old does have the release clause inserted into his Leverkusen deal he is unaware of any club preparing to pay the fee, in a chat with German publication Sport.

"Jeremie Frimpong has a long contract with us, he also has a release clause, but we are not aware of a move at the moment," Carro said.

"The rumours surprised me a bit when I started in the football business seven years ago.

Gradually, I've been there longer, there are always different interested parties, there are different parties, there are different relationships.

"It's actually quite difficult to find out where the rumours come from, but I have to say, there are many that really surprise me."

Alexander-Arnold is understood to have told Liverpool head coach Arne Slot in March of his decision to leave.

Real Madrid look set to be his next destination and the two clubs have been in contact over a possible early release of his terms due to the La Liga giants' participation in the revamped Club World Cup next month.

Los Blancos are involved in the United States tournament from June 18, but with Alexander-Arnold technically under contract until June 30, the Spaniards are faced with the prospect of paying a fee to bring in the England international earlier than initially planned.

It's unclear if Liverpool are open to such a negotiation.

Alexander-Arnold was singled out for loud jeering from Reds supporters during Sunday's 2-2 draw with Arsenal, with the West Derby-born defender subjected to boos upon his arrival as a second-half substitute and more clearly when he took his first touches in the match itself.
