Christopher Nkunku wants to join Bayern Munich as he edges closer to a move away from Chelsea before the end of the transfer window.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 27-year-old has made clear his desire to move on.
Negotiations are believed to have taken place with Bayern in recent days and there is a growing possibility that he could finally make the move.
Brown first told Football Insider in April that Nkunku is eyeing a return to the Bundesliga and will “definitely” leave Chelsea before the window closes.
Enzo Maresca does not view the Frenchman as part of his long-term plans and is happy for him to move on as the Blues undergo a late-window clear-out.
A number of Premier League sides including Man United and Newcastle United have considered making moves for Nkunku, but the player is keen to return to Germany.

Football Insider revealed in May that Nkunku is fully expected to leave Chelsea this summer as he has no future at Chelsea amid growing interest.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that talks over a move to Bayern Munich are set to accelerate in the coming days.
“Christopher Nkunku wants to go back to Germany,” he told Football Insider.
“Based on the things I’ve heard, I believe that has been the case all summer because he’s not going to be part of the plans at Chelsea.
“I’m very surprised things haven’t worked out for him there because I think he’s a quality player.
“The situation there with all the comings and goings can’t be helpful for any of them.

“But it’s got to a point now where, from his point of view, he wants to be playing regular football and he’s not going to do that at Chelsea.
“I hear from my sources that Bayern Munich have been in talks to sign him, and he would jump at that opportunity.
“If the two clubs are in negotiations, I expect they’ll reach an agreement soon.
“He would be going back to a league he knows well and where he’s comfortable, but still be playing for a top club and challenging for silverware.”
While Nkunku’s future remains up in the air, Chelsea have already set their sights on a potential alternatice to the forward in RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.
Football Insider revealed on 16 August that Chelsea are leading the race to sign Simons despite late interest in a hijack from Man City.

Pep Guardiola is believed to be an admirer of the attacking midfielder, but the Blues remain in the box seat and have been working to agree terms.
This comes after Football Insider revealed last month that Simons has told Leipzig he wants to leave this summer, with a £60million price tag mooted.
