Liverpool’s busy summer is showing no signs of slowing down with highly-rated youngster Trey Nyoni putting pen-to-paper on a new long-term contract.

As confirmed by the Reds on Monday, the midfielder celebrates turning 18 by extend his stay on Merseyside having joined the club from Leicester in September 2023.

Nyoni says he wants to repay the club’s faith in handing him a new deal: “It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well.

“So, it’s a great feeling.

But now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract.

“I think it’s just step by step, day by day, just becoming better every day, just improving as a player.

“I’m still young, there’s a lot of improvement.

I just have to repay them in that way.”

Nyoni made history during the 2023/24 season by becoming the club's youngest-ever player to play in the FA Cup after making his first-team debut as a substitute for Harvey Elliott in the 3-0 fifth-round tie win against Southampton, aged 16 and 243 days.

That record has since been taken by Rio Mgumoha who started the FA Cup third-round tie against Accrington Stanley last season.

Nyoni, did however, become Liverpool’s youngest-ever player in Europe when his featured in the Champions League tie away at PSV Eindhoven in the league phase, aged 17 years and 213 days.

Nyoni becomes the third Liverpool senior player to sign a new contract this summer, following in the footsteps of goalkeepers Vitezslav Jaros and Harvey Davies.

It remains to be seen what the short-term plan for the midfielder as the aforementioned pair have since joined Ajax and Crawley Town respectively on season-long loan deals.

In terms of other business, the reigning Premier League champions have been very active so far in the arrivals departure.

Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez have all been recruited to help defend the title, Freddie Woodman will act as a back-up option to Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili, whilst Armin Pecsi is regarded as one for the future.
