Liverpool have made some statement signings this summer and they are certainly catching the eye of many.

The Reds begin their pre-season tour of Asia in just under a week’s time as they aim to give minutes to some of their newest arrivals.

One man who is still yet to make his debut is Florian Wirtz, with the German absent from their first friendly against Preston alongside many other first-team players.

The 22-year-old has arrived for a British transfer record and certainly has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, although all the hype around him suggests he will be able to live up to expectations.

One West Ham player in particular has admitted that he is excited to see Wirtz play in the Premier League, even if he will have to come up against him.

Although a lot of people may never have seen Wirtz play, the way everyone in Germany has reacted to his move to Anfield should speak volumes about his ability.

All the top journalists, managers and even players have raved about the attacking midfielder, with West Ham’s Nicolas Fullkrug the latest to do so.

The pair have played together as part of the German national team, with the striker excited to see what his friend can do in the Premier League.

“Florian is a very special player, very talented, one of the best players in Germany,” Fullkrug told The Mirror after West Ham’s pre-season game against Swiss side Grasshopper.

“I love this guy, he’s such a good guy and what a good player, so I told him already I’m happy he’s now in the Premier League and he can show the whole world how good he is.”

The duo will not be reunited until 29th November, however, when West Ham host the Reds, giving Wirtz plenty of time to settle in and prove why he is worth the £116m that Liverpool spent on him.

Liverpool must have promised the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah big things when they signed their new contracts last season, and they have certainly delivered.

To attract a player of Wirtz’s quality, he would have had reassurance on the project too, with Richard Hughes pulling out all the stops to turn the Reds into somewhat of a super team.

The German has an excellent midfield pairing of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch behind him, meaning that he will feel safer going forward given the quality he has to protect him.

He also has Mohamed Salah to his right and, what will likely be, Cody Gakpo to his left, giving him plenty of options either side of him to choose from as he kick-starts attacks.

Finally, it looks as if the 22-year-old will have a high quality striker to supply balls through to in the form of Hugo Ekitike, meaning that it should just be a recipe for success in his first season on Merseyside.
