'I spoke to’: Premier League star confirms he offered advice to Wirtz and Frimpong ahead of Liverpool moves

Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have been in contact over multiple deals already this summer.

The Reds may still want a few more targets but the bulk of their business appears to have been done early.

Milos Kerkez is the next player set to join, following not too far behind Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, with the pair being reunited on Merseyside.

With Jarell Quansah set to join Leverkusen now as well, the two clubs have done plenty of business with one another this summer, showing just how good both clubs are at developing players.

Another star that the German club helped grow is Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, with the Englishman a former teammate with them both during his year on loan.

He knows them better than a lot of people and has also admitted that he spoke to the pair of them ahead of their move, suggesting he could have had a slight influence on their decision.

Sometimes a key factor in a player deciding to join a club is based on the advice they have received from mutuals, with these usually being old teammates or friends on the national team.

Winger Hudson-Odoi is a mutual that both players have after he spent a season-long loan at Leverkusen, and he has admitted in an interview with Sky Sports that he had a chat with them before their arrival.

“They are amazing players and very good people as well.

They have amazing talent and I hope the best for both of them in the Premier League,” Hudson-Odoi said.

“I speak to them as much as possible, tell them how the Premier league is tough and how it’s not easy, but I think they’ll adapt well.

“I spoke to Jeremie [Frimpong] about it but it’s always different for every player.

Everyone adapts differently, so hopefully he adapts quickly, gets the gist of things and hopefully he does well.

It is uncommon for a player from another club to encourage others to join a close-ish rival, at least publicly, but Liverpool fans might just want to thank Hudson-Odoi for the very small part he has played in these deals happening.

Versatility is a key trait needed to be able to make it at Anfield, especially in attack, with this something Arne Slot is very keen for his players to have.

Although Wirtz is a ‘number 10’, he can also play off the left or even as an unconventional centre-forward, with Hudson-Odoi highlighting just how good a player he will be for the Reds.

“He can play anywhere to be fair, he’s a talented player and got the ability to create anything out of nothing,” he told Sky Sports.

“So, he can play anywhere in the team and I think he will be a big asset to Liverpool, it’s an amazing thing that he’s in the Premier League as well.”

If this move wasn’t exciting enough, the fact current Premier League players are also excited for his arrival says a lot, although Hudson-Odoi may regret being so nice if Wirtz comes in and takes the league by storm and helps Liverpool dominate for years to come.
