Jarell Quansah Transfer and Liverpool Buyback Details
Jarell Quansah has completed a permanent transfer from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen in early July 2025. The Bundesliga club paid an initial fee of £30 million, with potential add-ons worth up to £5 million. This deal makes Quansah Bayer Leverkusen's most expensive signing to date. The player moves after nearly 17 years at Liverpool, having progressed through the club’s academy from the age of five, ultimately making 58 senior appearances and scoring three goals. During his time at Liverpool, he won both Premier League and Carabao Cup medals and played a key role during the 2023-24 season, including featuring in the Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea and contributing to Liverpool’s 20th top-flight title under manager Arne Slot in 2024-25.
Despite the permanent sale, Liverpool have secured a buy-back clause that will become active from 2027. This clause is reportedly set at around €60 million (£51.6 million) plus add-ons, allowing Liverpool the first option to re-sign Quansah if desired. The clause reflects the club’s continued high regard for the young centre-back’s potential and their interest in retaining future control over his development.
Following the transfer announcement, Bayer Leverkusen’s social media team posted a respectful message to Liverpool fans, expressing gratitude and pledging to take good care of Quansah. Liverpool, meanwhile, are linked with several possible replacements but have indicated they will only act if the right target emerges, having already invested significantly in other players this transfer window, including signings from Bayer Leverkusen themselves.
Quansah’s last action as a Liverpool player was celebrating the Premier League trophy with fans, marking the end of an important chapter as he embarks on his new career in Germany.
