Liverpool and Real Madrid have been in the news on Monday after Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed his intention to swap one for the other this summer.

Although it has not been officially announced that Alexander-Arnold will be joining Madrid, he is now completely certain to leave Liverpool.

And while nothing has been confirmed in regards to the right-back moving to the Santiago Bernabeu, that is the clear direction of travel.

It is a disappointing decision from Alexander-Arnold which has left Liverpool supporters furious.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing from a fans’ point of view is that the Reds are arguably in a much better place than Real Madrid right now.

Faced with a rare season without silverware, Los Blancos are set to fire Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the campaign.

They could also lose several players, with rumours that Rodrygo Goes may be ready to leave.

Liverpool tried to sign Rodrygo before joined Real Madrid in 2018.

And with rumours of a potential swoop from the Reds seven years on, journalist David Lynch has assessed Liverpool’s chances of landing the Brazilian.

With Alexander-Arnold heading to the Spanish capital, many Liverpool fans will want nothing more to do with Real Madrid this summer.

However, the Reds are planning some changes to their forward line and if Rodrygo is available he would be an interesting option.

Speaking to Anfield Index, Lynch does not completely rule out the possibility of a rekindled move for the Brazil international, but does say his arrival would likely depend on any departures.

“I guess a lot depends on what the vacancies end up being in Liverpool’s front line,” he says when asked about the potential of Rodrygo rocking up at Anfield.

“We know they want to chase a centre-forward because Nunez we really do expect to depart.

That’s an interesting one, it’s kind of early in the window to suggest if Liverpool are going to be in the mix for him.”

When Real Madrid signed Rodrygo in 2018, they did so by paying around £38m.

A big figure for an 18-year-old, but nothing compared to what his price would be today.

Although he’s not necessarily had the best of seasons at Madrid, Rodrygo is still a big name player and would have a price-tag to match that.

It’s hard to put an exact amount on the 24-year-old without knowing his exact situation, but Liverpool would probably be looking at something in the £60-70m mark at the very least.

After Madrid have taken Alexander-Arnold from them for absolutely nothing, it would not be a surprise if the Reds are reluctant to line the coffers at the Santiago Bernabeu.

For that reason – as well as those that Lynch states – we’re not sure we see this one happening.
