Vitor Pereira could part ways with Wolves soon after their 4-0 smashing by Man City in the opening game of the season.

The Wanderers were completely blown away by a wonderful display by Pep Guardiola’s side as Jose Sa was left powerless to the brilliance of the City attack.

Pereira’s team were simply outclassed on the day, although Newcastle target Jorgen Strand Larsen did show flashes of goal scoring potential in a desolate evening at the Molineux Stadium.

Key Matheus Cunha replacement Jhon Arias was not included from the get-go as the Portuguese manager prioritised defensive solidity over creative flair – although this did not stop an utter rout by the Cityzens.

With an underwhelming transfer window for the club and a less than ideal start to the new Premier League campaign, ex-Watford striker Troy Deeney expects the worse for the beloved Wolves manager this year.

Speaking on talkSPORT (18 August), the former Birmingham City front man highlighted the sheer brilliance of the blue half of Manchester despite an ok performance from the Old Gold.

Elaborating more on the game, the retired Hornet said: “I think Wolves also looked good to a point, in the first half they had a few scares.”

However, Deeney thinks there are bad omens ahead for the current boss, stating: “[I] still think that the manager [Pereira] is excellent for Wolves.

“I have this feeling lads, I don’t like to say it, but I think he’s going to walk away.

“I can see that manager, if he doesn’t get backed the way he needs to to keep that team competitive I think he’ll walk away from it [Wolves] I really do.”

Deeney has a gut feeling that Vitor Pereira could leave the Midlands if he is not backed in the transfer market

Football Insider verdict

The loss to City comes as no surprise to neutral fans as the Wanderers can now focus on much more winnable fixtures in the next few games.

In the next four matches, the Old Gold will take on an explosive Bournemouth, followed by a timid Everton, an unpredictable Newcastle and a boisterous Leeds side.

I’d say for the Portuguese manager, at least two wins need to be picked up in that run, otherwise the club may find themselves in a perilous position early on in the season.

For the former Olympiacos manager, he will likely be frustrated after a mixed transfer window which has seen the club go for a “invest in potential” approach which could be a calamitous mistake.

Arias looks to be the right man to fill the creative void at the attacking end of the pitch, but the Colombian will need time to settle in England after time in South America.

After bringing such an amazing feeling back to Wolverhampton last year, Pereira will be hoping for more points and new arrivals in the coming weeks.

A man known for not staying at jobs for too long, the ex-Fenerbahce boss could easily say “tchau” and pack his bags at the snap of a finger.
