Liverpool’s winless streak as Premier League champions continued as the Reds fell to a 3-2 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Seagulls came from 2-1 down at the break to clinch all three points as Liverpool let the game pass them by at the Amex Stadium, with Arne Slot’s side once again lacking that intensity since winning the Premier League title last month.
With Liverpool fans critical of Federico Chiesa’s performance on his first league start of the season, the game was one to forget for most supporters, with all eyes now on Sunday and the Premier League trophy lift at Anfield.
And Jamie Carragher has now named one Liverpool player who was ‘lacking’ something important in Monday’s loss.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender noted how Ibrahima Konate lacked any real leadership qualities for Liverpool against Brighton, with the French international the most experienced defender to start at the back with Virgil van Dijk rested.
With Liverpool already worried about Konate’s future at the club, last night’s performance against Brighton would have done little to quell the nerves for supporters on if the centre-back will stay or not, with interest likely to build heading into the summer.
Carragher said: “I actually thought Jarell Quansah did well until that goal, but I wanted a bit more from Konate tonight.
I know they’ve been away and not at their best and maybe the intensity is not there, but even on the second goal, Konate comes flying out of position and it goes flying over his head.

“I want to see more from him, that leadership.
I’d like to see them play 10 or 15 games without Virgil van Dijk.
That was lacking from Konate, especially in the second-half.”
Van Dijk’s absence for Liverpool was felt against Brighton as the Reds looked disorganised and sloppy at the back, with the Premier League champions lucky that Brighton only scored three goals on the night at the Amex Stadium.
And heading into next season, learning to defend and to keep it tidy at the back without Van Dijk will be a key mission for Liverpool to undertake, especially with the Dutch international turning 34-years-old in the summer.
Indeed, Konate knows he can do better than what we saw last night without Van Dijk by his side, and the Liverpool centre-back will want to prove he can be the main man for the Reds should he decide to commit his future to the Anfield side.
