It was a far from convincing Liverpool display at Burnley on Sunday.

I expected Liverpool to dominate proceedings and with 27 shots to the hosts' three, you can definitely say the visitors did that.

But they never really looked like they had Burnley on the ropes and, in the end, you have to say Liverpool will be pleased just to take the 1-0 and walk away from Turf Moor.

I understand Scott Parker's tactics to an extent; his side were one of the most well-drilled around last season with 30 Championship clean sheets, but at times their approach left me dumbfounded.

I realise the Clarets are going to be scrapping for their lives to stay in this division but they showed no ambition to go and win the game with any sort of counter-attacking threat.

It was a potential ankle breaker on Alexis Mac Allister, so he can have no complaints when he's got the second yellow for the foul on Florian Wirtz.

Kerkez decision spot on

The decision from Arne Slot to take Milos Kerkez off before half-time was the right one.

And you just know David Moyes is an experienced and astute enough manager to have seen other teams cause Liverpool problems and frustrate them at times so far.

I can tell you right now what will happen on Saturday: Everton will come to Anfield and play like Burnley did and play like Arsenal did.

Mikel Arteta's side came and played for a draw, so no other team will have any qualms doing likewise now and it is on Slot and the players to find a way to counteract that.

The only team who have gone toe to toe with Liverpool so far is Newcastle United and it is something Liverpool will encounter similar problems throughout the season, so finding a way to get around that will have a big say on what they are able to achieve.

With four wins from four so far, it looks as though the champions have the answers but Saturday is another tough test.
