Bayer Leverkusen's Nathan Tella admits he was not surprised when he heard of Liverpool's interest in Jeremie Frimpong.

And he says his former team-mate "deserves the world" for his Bundesliga form.

And former Southampton defender Tella believes the Reds' new £29m man will be a big hit at Anfield as the big-spending summer continues on Merseyside.

Tella spent two seasons with Frimpong as his team-mate, with die Werkself, winning the Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 campaign without defeat while also lifting the German Cup before going down in the Europa League final to Atalanta.

Last term, Xabi Alonso's side finished as runners-up to Bayern Munich and Tella told Flashscore that he was not shocked when interest from Arne Slot emerged.

"He is one of those footballers who deserves the world because he's done so much for the team to help us, and he's done so much for himself as a player.

"If you're good enough, you can play anywhere, and he's shown it's not just that he only plays in Germany, he's played at international level, he's played in the Champions League, and he's done well.

"I wouldn't say there'll be any surprise for anyone to see how good he is there.

Definitely, there should be no surprise to see how well he goes."

Frimpong officially arrived on June 1 after his £29m release clause was triggered and the Netherlands international was followed by his Leverkusen team-mate Florian Wirtz, whose £116m transfer to Anfield was made official on Friday.
